Today we are here to do a Jebao Canister Filter Review, which is in our opinion is a contender among the best aquarium filters at the moment. It has a lot of useful features that will keep your aquarium water top quality. It’s not the fanciest filter in the world, but it certainly does its job just fine.
The Jebao Canister Filter is a really durable and high quality 4 stage filter with a whole lot of processing power. If you have a fairly large aquarium and need an easy to use filtration system with a high flow rate, this is good option to consider but let’s take a deeper look into the filter to see how good it really is (you can check the price at Amazon here).
Our Jebao Canister Filter Review
We have broken this down to cover all of the features and benefits that the Jebao Canister Filter brings to the table.
The Jebao Canister Filter is a very high capacity water filtration unit. It is intended for 60 gallon aquariums and is easily suitable for anything up to 100 gallons. That being said you probably do not want to use it for anything over 80 gallons in order to make sure that the water gets truly clean. On that same note, the Jebao Canister Filter can handle around 320 gallons of water per hour, which is pretty impressive no doubt.
This means that this filter could turn over the water in an 80 gallon aquarium 4 times per hour, which is perfect for tanks with high bio-loads, such as turtle tanks or fish tanks with lots of living creatures and lots of plants.
Adjustable Flow Rate
The Jebao Canister Filter does feature and adjustable flow rate, which is great for tanks of different sizes. While you cannot increase the flow rate past the maximum, you can definitely turn it down, thus making it ideal for smaller tanks as well. This adjustable flow rate feature can also be used to vent the filtration unit.
This is a 4 stage filtration unit that engages in all 3 major types of filtration. It engages in mechanical, biological, and chemical filtration. The first step contains ceramic rings and a filter fleece, which actually acts as mechanical and biological filtration in one.
The second step consists of bio balls for the growth of healthy nitrate and ammonia killing bacteria. The third step consists of activated carbon for removing other chemicals, odors, and impurities. In other words, this Filter does a great job at filtering out solid debris and particles, ammonia, nitrates, and nitrites, as well as discoloration and bad odors too.
The media baskets are all stacked on top of each other, easy to access, easy to fill, and easy to change as well (more on media on this article).
Something that we personally like about the Jebao Filter is that it is an external canister filter. Yes, this means that you will need some extra shelf space, either beside or below the aquarium, but this means that it does not take up any space inside of the aquarium.
All of that space inside of the tank is valuable real estate, so having the Jebao Canister Filter on the outside means that there is more space for fish and for plants (we have covered 10 good plant suggestions on this post).
Easy Set Up & Maintenance
Another thing that many people like about this filter is that it is very easy to set up and to maintain. To get this filter going, all you need to do is make sure that the filter media is in place, hook up the intake and outtake tube, prime it, and let it run. It really could not be any easier.
The Jebao Canister Filter comes with a simple to operate primer button on the top. Simply press the primer a few times and the Jebao Filter is good to go. When it comes time for maintenance, the lid is held on with easy off clamps. Simply take the lid off for access to the inside.
The final thing worth mentioning about the Jebao Canister Filter is that it is made with longevity in mind. The hard plastic shell is made to withstand quite the beating, and the same time it’s fairly wide and stable, this preventing it from tipping over.
The hoses and all internal components are also made with high quality parts to ensure that the filter does not crack or leak out any water (if you need help cleaning filter hoses then checkout this post).

If you have fish, turtles, or even just a purely planted aquarium, then the Jebao Canister Filter is certainly a viable option to consider.
