Finding a good filter for an aquarium can be quite the challenge. It may seem easy to just go out and buy the first one you see, but that is definitely not a good idea. You need a filter that is big enough to handle your aquarium, quiet enough to be bearable, and effective enough to keep your tank clean.

Today, we are here to do a Marineland C-530 Canister Filter Review. This is one of the biggest and most effective aquarium filtration contenders but how good is it really? Let’s take a much closer look at the C-530 filter.

Our Marineland C-530 Canister Filter Review

Marineland Multi-Stage Canister Filter for Aquariums, C-Series

If you need a really high-capacity filter that can handle a whole lot of aquarium water and a big bio-load then the Marineland C-530 Canister Filter is a worthy contender. It’s big, it’s powerful, it’s surprisingly efficient, and made to last.

Let’s talk about the main features and benefits which the Marineland C-530 Canister Filter brings to the table.

Capacity

The first and perhaps one of the most important things to mention here is that the Marineland C-530 Canister Filter has a great capacity for dealing with large amounts of water. To be exact, this bad boy is made to deal with 150-gallon aquariums, which it can easily do.

This filter can process over 600 gallons of water per hour, which is very impressive. In other words, this particular canister filter can clean all of the water in your aquarium four times per hour for ultimately clean and clear water.

Adjustable Flow Rate

The Marineland C-530 Filter can be adjusted in terms of the flow rate. While it can’t be set too low, you can turn it down to process less than 600 gallons of water per hour, but if you have a big aquarium there is probably no need to do so.

Filtration

Since the C-530 is a water filter for aquariums, it only makes sense that we talk about the filtration capabilities. Well, this bad boy engages in all 3 major types of filtration needed for aquariums. It performs really thorough mechanical filtration, followed by biological filtration, and then finally chemical filtration. The Marineland C-530 Canister Filter comes with all of the filter media and all media trays already included, set up, stacked, and ready to rock.

Included are two large filter pads and a floss pad mechanical filtration, black bio balls for biological filtration, and activated carbon combined with ceramic media for chemical filtration. In other words, this filter actually engages in a full 5-step filtration process in order to remove debris and solid particles, to kill ammonia and nitrates, and to remove any other chemicals, smells, and colors from the aquarium water.

Equipment

When it comes to the equipment needed to set the Marineland C-530 Canister Filter up, it is all included as well. The hoses included are very thick, tough, and durable, which means that you don’t have to worry about them breaking. Moreover, the connecters are all made to be easy to attach, as well as leak proof too. In other words, it comes with absolutely everything you need to get started. Simply place the canister filter where you want it, connect the hoses, and turn it on (we have covered cleaning hoses on this article if you need any help).

Durability

This filter is that it is extremely durable to say the least. It is made out of top quality materials, such as the tough hoses and rugged plastic outer shell. This thing is big, it works wonders, and it is ridiculously tough to boot. The lid on the Marineland C-530 is also very nicely built. It is very simple to put on and take off for regular cleaning and maintenance, plus when it is on it is extremely sturdy and secure. On a side note, the C-530 filter is extremely stable. It is a fairly large filter with a wide base, so you do not need to worry about it falling over anytime soon.

Priming

While the Marineland C-530 Canister Filter does not come with an automatic priming feature to get rid of air and fill the filter with water before you turn it on, priming it is still very easy. All you need to do is press the big primer button a couple of times before plugging the filter in and turning it on. This will prime the Marineland C-530 Canister Filter and get it ready to go. It really does not get any easier than this.

Tank Space

Another thing that is a benefit is the fact that it is an external canister filter. Yes, some people like internal filters, but the fact this model does not take up any room inside of the tank is a big bonus for us. In other words, since it is an external filter, you do not have to worry about wasting valuable real estate inside of the aquarium.

Quiet

The final thing about the Marineland C-530 Canister Filter that is worth mentioning is that it is surprisingly quiet for its size and power. No, it is not the quietest of all filters out there by a long shot, but based on its big size, it could definitely be louder.
